Eliezer e GoldschmidtGrafting, an old plant propagation practice, is still widely used with fruit trees and in recent decades also with vegetables. Taxonomic proximity is a general prerequisite for successful graft-take and long-term survival of the grafted, composite plant. However, the mechanisms underlying interspecific graft incompatibility are as yet insufficiently understood. Hormonal signals, auxin in particular, are believed to play an important role in the wound healing and vascular regeneration within the graft union zone. Long-distance protein, mRNA and small RNA graft-transmissible signals currently emerge as novel mechanisms which regulate nutritional and developmental root/top relations and may play a pivotal role in grafting physiology. Grafting also has significant pathogenic projections. On one hand, stock to scion mechanical contact enables the spread of diseases, even without a complete graft union. But, on the other hand, grafting onto resistant rootstocks serves as a principal tool in the management of fruit tree plagues and vegetable soil-borne diseases. The graft hybrid’ historic controversy has not yet been resolved. Recent evidence suggests that epigenetic modification of DNA-methylation patterns may account for certain graft-transformation phenomena. Root grafting is a wide spread natural phenomenon; both intraspecific and interspecific root grafts have been recorded. Root grafts have an evolutionary role in the survival of storm-hit forest stands as well as in the spread of devastating diseases. A more fundamental evolutionary role is hinted by recent findings that demonstrate plastid and nuclear genome transfer between distinct Nicotiana species in the graft union zone, within a tissue culture system. This has led to the formation of alloploid cells that, under laboratory conditions, gave rise to a novel, alloploid Nicotiana species, indicating that natural grafts may play a role in plant speciation. under certain the aim of determining whether grafting could improve the agronomic behaviour of pepper Capsicum annuum L., a greenhouse experiment was carried out to determine growth, yield and fruit quality of two bell pepper hybrid cultivars Edo and Lux, either ungrafted or grafted onto five commercial rootstocks 'Snooker', 'Tresor', 'RX360', 'DRO8801' and ' Grafted plants were 29 and 28% taller than control for 'Edo' and 'Lux' cultivars, respectively. Total yield, marketable yield and fruit number were significantly influenced by rootstock, whereas no significant difference was observed on unmarketable yield, marketable fruit mean weight and fruit shape index for both cultivars. Grafted plants produced 22-46% more marketable yield than control plants for 'Edo'. A similar trend was also observed on 'Lux', where the grafted plants had 25% more marketable yield in comparison to ungrafted plants. The lowest marketable yield recorded on ungrafted plants for 'Edo' and 'Lux' was related to a reduction in fruit number and not to the fruit mean weight. Nutritional qualities of grafted peppers such as fruit dry matter, total soluble solids contents, titratable acidity were similar in comparison to those of ungrafted plants. Since grafting increased the crop vigour and yield, and following the abandonment of methyl bromide, grafting technique should be useful for low-input sustainable horticulture of the study was conducted to examine the effect of grafted peppers Capsicum annuum on different rootstocks on fruit quality. Three pepper cultivars, 'Nokkwang', 'Saengsaeng Matkkwari', and 'Shinhong' were grafted onto five commercial rootstocks that are known to be resistant to Phytophtora blight. Non-grafted or auto-grafted peppers were used as controls. Grafted plants were grown during two consecutive harvest periods by semi-forcing culture April to August and retarding culture September to March the subsequent year. Full size green fruits were harvested and weighed weekly from June to August Semi-forcing culture and from December to March of the subsequent year Retarding culture. The fruit size, weight, flesh thickness, and firmness were measured every month. Total marketable yield was not significantly influenced by either auto-graft of 'Nokkwang', 'Saengsaeng Matkkwari', and 'Shinhong' of pepper or grafted with the five commercial rootsctocks. By contrast, grafting influenced the apparent fruit quality of peppers. Fruit characteristics differed depending on the rootstock cultivars. However, the fruit characteristics of rootstock did not affect the fruit characteristics of scion grafted onto that rootstock. Fruit characteristics in each treatment differed among harvest time first, second, and third harvest. Fruit quality parameters were also different as affected by the harvest period. In conclusion, apparent quality and textural property of pepper fruits were influenced by not only grafting with different rootstocks but also by the harvest period and harvest time. Accordingly, rootstock/scion combination, the scion variety and the harvest period must be carefully chosen to get the desired optimal fruit attempts to phase out the use of methyl bromide as a fumigant, the grafting of sweet pepper may be used in integrated disease management to produce the fruit safely in an environmentally friendly way; however, there has been controversy as to whether the use of the graft affects the fruit yield. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the morphological characteristics and yield of marketable fruit of the pepper cultivar Triple Star grafted onto eight rootstocks. Ninety percent of the variability in the agronomic and morphological characteristics of non-grafted and grafted Triple Star individuals was explained by the first three canonical roots, in which discriminating characteristics of weekly and total fruit yield, number of fruits harvested per m2, leaf length, plant growth, number of nodes on the main stem, stem diameter, and distance from the apex to the last open flower were prominent. Except for this last characteristic, for which no significant differences between the rootstocks were found, the CM334 rootstock negatively affected all of the agronomic and morphological characteristics, whereas rootstock AR96029 had a positive effect by significantly increasing the plant growth and yield. Additionally, the Tresor rootstock induced an increase in the leaf length and number of marketable fruit without increasing the fruit yield. This evidence indicates that the rootstock had a significant influence on the morphological and agronomic characteristics of the scion. For the production of peppers, therefore, the proper selection of rootstock prior to performing the graft is Grafting has been extensively used to enhance the performance of horticultural crops. Since Charles Darwin coined the term "graft hybrid" meaning that asexual combination of different plant species may generate products that are genetically distinct, highly discrepant opinions exist supporting or against the concept. Recent studies have documented that grafting enables exchanges of both RNA and DNA molecules between the grafting partners, thus providing a molecular basis for grafting-induced genetic variation. DNA methylation is known as prone to alterations as a result of perturbation of internal and external conditions. Given characteristics of grafting, it is interesting to test whether the process may cause an alteration of this epigenetic marker in the grafted organismal products. Methodology/principal findings We analyzed relative global DNA methylation levels and locus-specific methylation patterns by the MSAP marker and locus-specific bisulfite-sequencing in the seed plants wild-type controls, self- and hetero-grafted scions/rootstocks, selfed progenies of scions and their seed-plant controls, involving three Solanaceae species. We quantified expression of putative genes involved in establishing and/or maintaining DNA methylation by q-RT-PCR. We found that 1 hetero-grafting caused extensive alteration of DNA methylation patterns in a locus-specific manner, especially in scions, although relative methylation levels remain largely unaltered; 2 the altered methylation patterns in the hetero-grafting-derived scions could be inherited to sexual progenies with some sites showing further alterations or revisions; 3 hetero-grafting caused dynamic changes in steady-state transcript abundance of genes encoding for a set of enzymes functionally relevant to DNA methylation. Conclusions/significance Our results demonstrate that inter-species grafting in plants could produce extensive and heritable alterations in DNA methylation. We suggest that these readily altered, yet heritable, epigenetic modifications due to interspecies hetero-grafting may shed one facet of insight into the molecular underpinnings for the still contentious concept of graft OhtaIn our previous report of a series of experiments involving ordinary grafting, virus-inoculated grafting and DNA treatment in Capsicum annuum L., we described the variants as well as gene analyses of individual variants, together with the characteristics of the graft-induced genetic changes obtained. Microhistological analysis of the stock stems revealed that chromatin masses, stained to greenish blue and in various sizes and shapes, were moving through cell wall and intercellular space from the lignifying and dying cells, stained to lighter purplish brown, towards the vascular bundles Fig. 1. I discussed the mechanisms of chromatin transfer from the stock dying cells through the vascular system across the graft-union to the growing points of the scion Fig. 3, and how that process causes transformation in the fast dividing scion flower primordia Fig. 4. The significance of chromatin translocation can be understood in the following way Genetic information is never transmitted from the stock to the scion, unless a DNA molecule larger than a functional unit such as a gene translocates from the stock, and unless the DNA molecules per se are integrated into new cell nuclei of the scion. In other words, no transmission of genetic information will take place, if DNA molecules of the stock disintegrated to nucleotides, as when a protein molecule is digested into amino acids, and are utilized by the scion simply as raw material in the formation of new cell nuclei with its own DNA strand as template. Also discussed were the significance of mentor methods’, and the importance of distinguishing between horticultural graft and genetical graft Fig. 2.Vegetable grafting is used extensively today by farmers primarily for facing soil borne problems – among other benefits – despite some unfavorable fruit quality effects observed in certain rootstock-scion combinations. Fruit shape is a characteristic known to be affected by grafting. Herein, working with pepper graftings between two pepper genotypes cultivars differing in fruit shape, we observed fruit shape changes after grafting the round shaped cultivar, cv. “Mytilini Round” scion on the long shaped cultivar, cv. “Piperaki Long” rootstock. Furthermore, the phenotypic changes observed in scion fruits were inherited for two generations of seed derived progenies indicating that the changes imposed on scion are heritable. PCR amplifications using six inter simple sequence repeat ISSR primers showed that progenies developed from seeds collected from the modified scion fruits had a genetic profile more similar to the scion genetic profile and less similar to the rootstock profile indicating that only minor genetic changes occurred in the scion during grafting. The change in the fruit shape was not found to be accompanied by extended DNA sequence changes in pepper CaOvate sequence, a gene shown before to be involved in determining fruit shape in pepper, although a slight difference in CaOvate gene expression was found. Overall, understanding the molecular mechanisms that probably underline graft-induced changes paves the way to a better knowledge over the rootstock-scion interactions, the role of rootstock in scion performance and eventually the improved quality and fruit harvest from grafted vegetable Natural Grafting Historical Evidence History of Clonal Rootstocks Graft Hybrids Conclusion Literature SangerS. and CoulsonA new method for determining nucleotide sequences in DNA is described. Từ khóa lòng trung thành, hình ảnh, chất lượng dịch vụ, sinh viên. 1. The participants were 1,000 students of 13 universities and colleges in Riau. This study employed service quality as an exogenous variable, while student satisfaction and student loyalty became an endogenous one. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling SEM and Analysis of Variance ANOVA with SPSS21 and AMOS 21. The result indicated a positive influence of service quality on student satisfaction and a positive influence of student satisfaction on student loyalty. However, no influences were found about student quality on student Student loyalty in higher education sector helps college administrators to establish appropriate programs that promote, establish, develop and maintain successful long-term relationships with both current and former students. The purpose of this study is to propose the use of mediation model that links service quality and student loyalty via student satisfaction and test the direct and indirect effects of service quality on student loyalty with the mediation role of student satisfaction. Design/methodology/approach The study used survey research design and collected data from three oldest state universities in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India to find the relationships between service quality, student satisfaction and student loyalty in higher education sector using structural equation modeling. Findings This study tested the proposed research model and proved the mediator role of student satisfaction between service quality and student loyalty. Service quality has been found to be an important input to student satisfaction. The result also shows that while university provides no basis for differentiation among the constructs, age and gender play a major role in determining the different perceptions of students about the constructs investigated. Research limitations/implications The study focuses on student satisfaction, of which service quality is an important antecedent. Identification of other variables, besides service quality, is crucial to contribute to the overall student satisfaction. Similarly, it is just as critical to identify the other elements like value, image or institution reputation which may have direct impact on service loyalty. It would be more precise when the studies also consider the opinion of the students before joining the institute based on word of mouth of passed-out students and after finishing the course. Longitudinal studies to collect predictor and criterion variables before and after the course would be much stronger. Practical implications A clearer understanding of the relationship between service quality, satisfaction and loyalty that helps ensure the management to take better strategies to concentrate and improve the performance is aided by this study. It is interesting to note that the student loyalty is primarily affected by age and gender. This type of analysis helps to identify the target students who have high potential of defection. Social implications Higher education and their respective institutions seek to enhance socio-cultural and economic development to promote active citizenship by inculcating ethical values among students. The Indian higher education institutions are facing enormous issues related to quality in education. The changing nature and need of higher education services and an increase in competitive intensity necessitates higher performance levels in the realm of Indian higher education universities. These can be achieved through a thorough understanding of the expectations of students and the importance placed by them on aspects found by the study such as teaching, administrative services, support services, hostel facilities, library and lab facilities and internationalization. Originality/value Previous studies have proved the mediation role of satisfaction between service quality and loyalty in marketing literature, but no significant studies have empirically tested the same in higher education sector. The service quality measurement in higher education is complex because of some unique features like customers’ student cognitive participation in the service process, the needs of the students being fulfilled by different parties, long-term and continuous services. The study contributes to the existing field of knowledge by providing support for the contention that student satisfaction performs a mediating role in the link between service quality and student loyalty in higher education purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between service quality, student satisfaction, university reputation, and student loyalty in the International Islamic University Malaysia IIUM. This study aims to improve our understanding of student loyalty and to highlight the effect of student satisfaction, service quality, and brand image in building student loyalty towards IIUM. Data were randomly collected from 160 students studying in IIUM during the 2012/2013 academic session. Data analysis encompasses descriptive analysis, reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis EFA, correlation, and regression analysis. The data resulted in acceptably high reliability. The result indicates that all independent variables have significant impact on student loyalty. All three hypotheses were supported. This study is set to assist institutions of higher education to identify improvements in the service delivery process by identifying different aspects of service quality, brand image, and student satisfaction in IIUM. Christian GrönroosCompares traditional marketing models to service marketing models, stating that the most important characteristic of services is the fact that services are processes, not things. A service firm has no products, only interactive processes. Whereas the consumption of physical products can be described as “outcome consumption”, the consumption of services can be characterized as “process consumption”. In this context, describes the development of the perceived service quality concept. Herry MulyonoIn facing the competitive market structure, Private University is forced to compete in order to attract students and to preserve them until graduation, continue their study to the higher level and to distribute positive information by word of mouth amongst the community as a form of persuasion to others. The purpose of this research is to analyze The effect of image, perceived quality, and perceived value on student satisfaction, The effect of Student Satisfaction on Student loyalty mediated by trust and commitment. The source of the data is secondary data taken from The Ministry of National Education Kemdiknas, Kopertis region III and the primary data is taken from a survey of Private University students in Jakarta, with the number of samples being = 500, analyzed by using Structural Equation Modeling SEM Lisrel findings of this research are six hypothesis take positive effect and significant. This paper aims to propose a structural model by examining the theoretical and empirical evidences on the relationships between students’ perceived service quality SPSQ, students’ satisfaction SSt, students’ loyalty SL and students’ motivation SM. Design/methodology/approach The paper uses survey research design to gather data regarding attitudes of students about quality of service, satisfaction, motivation and loyalty from seven public universities in India and tests the relationships between these variables using structural equation modeling. Findings The paper identifies a model with six-structured dimensions containing 23 items for HiEduQual. It proved the direct positive effect of the perceived service quality of students on satisfaction, loyalty and motivation. The paper also supports the partial and complete mediation role of students’ satisfaction between perceived service quality of students, their loyalty and motivation toward services being provided by the universities. The competing Model 1 M1 with partial mediation role of students’ satisfaction between students’ perceived service quality, loyalty and motivation was proved as the best among the alternative models. Research limitations/implications The paper developed and tested a new measurement instrument that covers all the service aspects experienced by the student as primary customer in higher education. Further studies can also measure service quality of the universities in the perspective of other key stakeholders. The authors would recommend studying other possible antecedents which would have influence on satisfaction motivation and loyalty. Practical implications The findings suggested that it would be worthwhile for university leaders to make proper allocation of resources, to provide better educational services including support services and facilities. It is believed that this paper has a significant competence for engendering more precise applications related to quality of services, especially concerning students’ satisfaction, loyalty and motivation. Social implications The changing nature and need of higher education services and increase in competitive intensity necessitates higher performance levels in the Indian higher education universities. These can only be achieved through a better understanding of the expectations of students and the importance placed by them on aspects such as teaching, administrative services, academic facilities, campus infrastructure, support services and internationalization. The paper identified that student perceived service quality is a key antecedent to student satisfaction, motivation and loyalty, which conveys that service quality is an important construct. Originality/value Previous studies have primarily focused on the relationship between service quality, satisfaction and loyalty. Along with the above, this paper includes students’ motivation and assesses the effect of service quality and satisfaction on motivation which was not previously used in services marketing research, especially in higher education sector. Higher education service holds some unique features like customers’ student cognitive participation in the service process, requirements of the students to be fulfilled by different parties and long-term continuous services. All these features require student participation. The results indicate that quality of academic and non-academic services play a vital role in motivating students to perform better in their relationship marketing shows itself to be essential in order that the relation between schools and students happens. This approach leads organizations to develop relationships directed to the retention and loyalty. The present paper aims to create a pattern to measure the loyalty and retention of the students in Brazilian higher education institutions. Therefore, an exploratory and qualitative theoretical research about the theme was carried out. As the main result, we have the elaboration of the Pattern of Loyalty and Retention of Students for Higher Education Institutions, which presents the following aspects as variables satisfaction, perceived quality, social integration, academic integration, cognitive commitment, commitment with the aims, commitment with the professional activities, commitment with the family, commitment with non-academic activities, emotional commitment, reliance and Senthilkumar A. ArulrajPurpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop a new model, namely service quality measurement in higher education in India SQM‐HEI for the measurement of service quality in higher educational institutions. Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected by means of a structured questionnaire comprising six sections. Section A consists of ten questions pertaining to teaching methodology TM. Sections B consists of five questions pertaining to environmental change in study factor ECSF. Section C consists of eight questions relating to disciplinary measures taken by the institutions. Section D consists of five questions related to the placement‐related activities and in part E two questions provide an overall rating of the service quality, satisfaction level. Finally, in part F 13 questions pertaining to student respondent's demographic profile information were given. All the items in Sections A‐E were presented as statements on the questionnaire, with the same rating scale used throughout, and measured on a seven‐point, Likert‐type. In addition to the main scale addressing individual items, respondents were asked in Section E to provide an overall rating of the service quality, satisfaction level. For conducting an empirical study, data were collected from final‐year students of higher educational institutions across Tamil Nadu. The sampling procedure used for the study was stratified random sampling. The stratification has been done based on the region Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, and nature of institution, government university, government college, aided college, private university and self‐financing college. While selecting the institutions from each category, non‐probabilistic convenience and judgmental sampling technique were used. However, within such institutions, the respondents were selected by stratified random sampling. Findings – The SQM‐HEI‐mediated model argued that the placement is the better interactions of the quality of education in India. The model reveals that the quality of education is based on the best faculty TM, the excellent physical resources ECSF, a wide range of disciplines DA which paved the diverse student body and to improve the employability of the graduates placement as mediating factor coming out of the higher educational institutions in India. The above model proves that the placement is the mediated factor for various dimensions of quality education. SQM‐HEI model would help in identify three service areas to be focused in the higher educational institutions for improving the quality of . These three dimensions of quality correlated between the sub‐dimension variables and it is very necessary for improving the quality of higher education in India. The educationist says that, education is a change of behavior of students. Hence, the higher educational institutions should come forward to adapt the sub‐dimensions of quality variables to enhance the outcome of education. Originality/value – The model described in this paper will assist academic institutions when mapping the level of service quality and thereby enhance the same.
